The Problem
The client had four sub-brands and needed a single store that could launch quickly, stay manageable for a non-technical owner, and scale to new product drops without breaking layout or design consistency across brands.
What I Built
- Reusable homepage sections built as WPCode shortcodes: category grid, featured products, best sellers, and category sections — all updateable without touching code or breaking layout
- Category colour system: each WooCommerce product category stores a brand colour that flows through to grids, product cards, and single product pages
- Custom WooCommerce admin tab that outputs Cart and Checkout CSS based on admin-chosen colours — no fragile inline CSS overrides required
- Best sellers section with a curated tag fallback for pre-launch, switching automatically to real sales-based best sellers as data builds up
- PayFast and instant EFT payment setup, South Africa shipping zone with flat rate and free shipping threshold
- Basic SEO hygiene for launch: page titles, heading structure, image alt text, clean permalinks, and responsive testing across devices
Real Problems Solved
These are real issues that surfaced under real users and real hosting constraints.
- No sales data at launch — used a curated product tag fallback for the best sellers section so the store looked complete from day one.
- Duplicate shortcode definitions were silently overriding new attributes — isolated the active snippet and restored expected slug-based category selection.
- WooCommerce My Account page was broken — fixed the base page mapping, corrected URL and endpoint resolution, and applied clean styling.
- Elementor editor publish bar disappeared — investigated console errors and identified mixed content issues crashing the editor UI.
